Surgical Procedures

At Women’s Personal Physicians in Miami, Florida, we treat a wide variety of gynecological conditions with nonsurgical means whenever possible. However, when surgical measures are necessary, we offer the following minimally invasive procedures:

Gynecological Surgeries at Our Ob Gyn Clinic

NovaSure®

NovaSure endometrial ablation is a one-time, five-minute procedure designed to remove the uterine lining,— known as the endometrium, which causes heavy bleeding. No incisions are required and your uterus is left intact.

During the procedure, your doctor opens your cervix (the opening of your uterus) slightly, inserts a slender wand and extends a triangular-shaped netted device into your uterus. The netting expands to fit the size and shape of your uterus.

Next, precisely measured radiofrequency energy is delivered through the netting for about 90 seconds. The netted device is then pulled back into the wand, and both are removed from your uterus.

Robotic Surgery

The skilled surgeons at Women’s Personal Physicians use a robotic system (consisting of two interactive mechanical arms, a camera arm, a 3D imaging processing system, and a remote-control unit) to perform gynecologic procedures such as hysterectomy, surgery for ovarian cancer, and pelvic organ prolapse repair. The benefits of robotic surgery over traditional approaches include significantly less pain, less blood loss, fewer complications, less scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterus. Such a procedure may be required to treat painful uterine fibroids, abnormal vaginal bleeding, uterine prolapse, cancer of the uterus, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, or other problems.

Depending on the reason for the procedure, it may entail only the removal of the upper part of the uterus, leaving the cervix intact, or a total removal of the uterus and cervix.

Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)

LEEP is a treatment used to prevent cervical cancer by removing abnormal cells from your cervix using a small electrical wire loop. The procedure takes only 10 minutes.

Hysteroscopy

During this procedure, a lighted tube is inserted into the vagina, allowing your doctor to see inside your uterus and cervix to diagnose and treat causes of abnormal bleeding.

Laparoscopy

A laparoscopy is an alternative to open surgery and involves the use of a fiber-optic instrument called a laparoscope to look inside your pelvic area to determine if you have a condition such as endometriosis or fibroids. It can also serve as a procedural tool, enabling your doctor to perform a variety of surgeries including ovarian cyst removal, tubal ligation, or hysterectomy.

Dilation and Curettage (D&C)

This procedure removes the inner lining of your uterus. It may be performed to obtain a biopsy to diagnose a uterine condition, remove endometrial polyps and precancerous cells, treat irregular or heavy bleeding, or remove fetal and placental tissue following a miscarriage.

Polypectomy

A polypectomy is a procedure used to remove polyps – small, fingerlike growths that may form on the cervix or the lining of the uterus.

Myomectomy

A myomectomy is a procedure used to remove uterine fibroids, which are noncancerous growths that can cause problems in the uterus. Hormone therapy can help shrink fibroids, making a subsequent myomectomy a minimally invasive procedure.

Ovarian Cystectomy

As its name implies, an ovarian cystectomy is surgery performed to remove a cyst from your ovary. This can be performed as a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

Endosee®

Endosee is an all-in-one, handheld, portable, cordless device that allows OB/GYNs to directly visualize the uterine cavity and complete a diagnostic hysteroscopy in an average of just three minutes.
